November is Men's Health Awareness Month, an opportunity to shine a spotlight on prevention, early diagnosis and awareness. The aim? Break down the taboos that keep people from talking openly about certain conditions and to recognise prevention as a sign of strength, not weakness.
November, Men's Health Awareness Month: IBSA's commitment
FROM PREVENTION TO ACTION
The Movember campaign – a combination of the words “Moustache”1 and “November” – is an international initiative that encourages men to take care of their physical and mental health. From cardiovascular disease to tumors, to sexual and reproductive disorders, prevention is now an increasingly key topic in public debate.
Promoting a culture of prevention, information and early diagnosis encourages more responsible behaviour and a greater consultation with healthcare professionals, overcoming the tendency to underestimate disorders.
Information and awareness are crucial factors. In this scenario, IBSA confirms its global commitment to the uro-gynaecological therapeutic area, a constantly evolving sector which requires an integrated approach combining scientific research, innovation, attention to the Person and quality of life.
IBSA'S COMMITMENT TO MEN'S HEALTH
- Erectile dysfunction: a widespread condition, often underestimated. It affects a growing number of men, especially those over 402. The causes can be organic or psychological, and their combination affects quality of life.
- Cystitis: while more common in women, urinary tract infections can also affect men, with unpleasant and recurring consequences. Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder, often bacterial and, if neglected, can lead to complications affecting the kidneys. For this reason, it is important to recognise the symptoms promptly and intervene with a treatment plan.
- Peyronie's disease: a serious condition, often kept quiet due to embarrassment or social stigma, which causes a fibrous thickening that retracts and deforms the penis, altering its shape during erection3.
1During the month of November, some men who participate in Movember grow moustaches to raise wareness about men's health, ed.
