ETA 2023 Congress: IBSA’s focus on the relationship between thyroid and gut microbiota

IBSA at the ETA 2023 Congress

Promoting clinical and basic research; increase our understanding of the mechanisms underlying thyroid diseases; and raise the standards of current clinical practice in this area: these are the objectives of the 45th edition of the scientific event promoted every year by the European Thyroid Association (ETA), which has been held from 9 to 12 September 2023.

As in 1999, the city of Milan (Italy) will host once again the four days of meetings, debates and detailed analyses, welcoming in Ca’ Granda – the historic building of the University of Milan, a monumental venue right in the centre of the city – over 1,000 endocrinology specialists from all over Europe.

THYROID AND GUT MICROBIOTA: THE FOCUS OF IBSA’S SYMPOSIUM

IBSA at the ETA 2023 Congress

The public was fascinated by the symposium Gut environment & hypothyroidism, organised by IBSA: a meeting of the highest scientific value where a panel of international experts analysed some aspects linked to the relationship between thyroid, thyroid conditions and gut environment.

Moderated by Prof. Laszlo Hegedüs (Denmark) and Prof. Mario Salvi (Italy), Prof. Julian Marchesi (UK) and Prof. Camilla Virili (Italy) provided their contributions. The symposium touched on various topics, such as the very current role of the human microbiota in pathological conditions, and how this can be used to bring benefits to patients; and again, the pathophysiological mechanism of levothyroxine absorption and the interaction of various formulations of this hormone with the numerous interfering factors that occur throughout the life of patients undergoing chronic treatment.

KNOW-HOW AND KNOWLEDGE ALWAYS AVAILABLE FOR MEDICAL TRAINING

Furthermore, the content of the symposium will become part of the scientific training material that IBSA makes available to endocrinologists through its platform IBSA Educational Program, a digital library created in 2021 with the aim of expanding the sharing of scientific news and best practices and promoting the interaction between international experiences.

During the congress, IBSA managed to meet several experts at its dedicated stand, making it a place for debate and informal discussion, thus also maximising the opportunities for networking and knowledge.
