Pharmaceutical Technology

internal-3

The Pharmaceutical Technology team provides support across all stages of a new formulation’s development, from concept to product. Through research, experimentation and optimisation, the team develops processes and formulations that ensure reproducibility and scalability. The work involves various pharmaceutical forms and requires specific expertise.

For freeze-dried formulations of reproductive hormones, the Pharmaceutical Technology team uses a freeze-dryer capable of replicating the operating conditions of large-scale industrial plants, enabling the process to be fine-tuned right from the earliest stages of development. For single-dose oral solutions of thyroid hormones, on the other hand, prototypes are developed and batches produced for clinical trials, in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

There is also a focus on pre-filled syringes, involving the careful assessment of every detail: from the compatibility of the formulation with the materials used in the device, to manufacturability on production lines, and right through to easy and safe administration for patients. In parallel, the team develops softgel capsules and oral films, starting with the preparation of mixtures or solutions containing active ingredients and excipients.

The development of creams and gels is another important aspect of work. Researchers design and optimise prototypes using specialised equipment, such as bench-top and pilot-scale turbo-emulsifiers, capable of replicating the conditions of future production processes.
In this way, each formulation is fine-tuned with the aim of making the transfer to industrial production easier and ensuring a robust and reliable development process.
