Products Development

internal-1

Since 1985, IBSA has been producing drugs in the best form and developing innovative therapeutic solutions.

Right from the company’s foundation, it has pursued a clear objective: to contribute not only to successful treatment, but also to the patient’s well-being throughout their healthcare journey.

IBSA’s research focuses on identifying new opportunities in often-neglected therapeutic areas, adding value to established active ingredients through cutting-edge technologies that optimise their bioavailability, and developing treatment systems that improve quality of life.

These efforts result in products designed to meet patients’ needs in terms of administration, absorption and ease of use, promoting greater adherence to treatment.

Research and Development at IBSA

IBSA’s Research & Development activities focus on generating new ideas, developing new products, improving existing products and implementing new production processes.

Leading this process is Tiziano Fossati, Head of Products Development, who coordinates the teams involved in the various stages of a product's development. Under his leadership, a network of professional researchers operates across IBSA’s various sites in Switzerland, Italy and China, forming the heart of R&D work at IBSA.

Caring Innovation

Developing unique products requires vision, dedication and attention to detail. That is why IBSA works every day to evolve, explore and open up new avenues.

The process of creating a new product – whether it’s a medicine, a food supplement or a medical device – always begins with an idea that is analysed and approved internally. A key factor is finding added value, because patients must perceive a real difference between the potential new product and what is already available on the market.

Focusing on established active ingredients doesn’t rule out innovation, quite the opposite, it means we can build on existing know-how by incorporating cutting-edge technologies to develop increasingly advanced therapeutic solutions.

The Products Development department is responsible for studying and assessing the feasibility of developing the medicines of the future, right through to their market launch.

This department shares space with the production department, in a strategic choice aimed at promoting synergy between development and industrialisation. This optimises collaboration between the departments and therefore improves processes.

The Products Development Department is organised into three key teams:
