The President and CEO of the IBSA Group Arturo Licenziati has been awarded the title of Commendatore of the Italian Republic for his entrepreneurial accomplishments and for his commitment to promoting local development. This is one of the highest honours conferred by the President of the Republic, awarded to individuals who have made significant contribution to the Nation.

The award was presented by the Minister of the Interior, Hon. Prefect Matteo Piantedosi, during a ceremony held on June 27 at the headquarters of Altergon Italia in Morra De Sanctis, in the province of Avellino, in the presence of numerous institutional representatives.

This title pays homage to an entrepreneurial journey that has combined strategic vision, social responsibility and the ability to enhance local communities, with a commitment that has extended as far as Southern Italy. Indeed, it was in Morra De Sanctis that Licenziati supported the development of Altergon Italia, now a centre of excellence in biotechnology research and in the production of ultra-pure hyaluronic acid.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP, VISION, INNOVATION: 40 YEARS OF CHALLENGES AND GOALS

The title of Commendatore comes in a very significant year for IBSA: 2025 will in fact mark the 80th anniversary of the IBSA brand, as well as 40 years of leadership under Licenziati, who took over the company in 1985 and transformed it into an international success.

Over the years, Licenziati has developed an original business model, driven by the belief that true innovation stems from listening to people. This philosophy shaped IBSA’s guiding principle: creating therapeutic solutions that enhance quality of life, including through user-friendly designs that encourage better adherence to treatment. Today IBSA’s products are available in over 90 countries, supported by 20 subsidiaries, over 2,300 employees and a robust production network, spanning 11 facilities in Switzerland, Italy and China.

Receiving this honour is a tremendous source of pride and deep gratitude for me”, stated Licenziati. “I strongly believe in the pharmaceutical industry’s potential as a driver of innovation and employment, capable of generating value and making a tangible impact on the community and the local areas. By fostering close collaboration between business, scientific research and local stakeholders, we can improve people’s quality of life”.
