2021 IBSA Foundation Fellowships - Call for submissions for the 9th edition to award top international projects by researchers under 40

Submissions are now being accepted for the ninth edition of the IBSA Foundation Fellowships for scientific research, an initiative to support and champion the work of young researchers from universities and institutes all over the world.

In 2021, IBSA Foundation is offering six fellowships of €30,000 each, one more than in 2020. The Fellowships are awarded to researchers under the age of 40 with university degrees in medicine, biology, pharmacy, biotechnologies or bioengineering. Eligible candidates are doctoral students, PhDs, post-PhDs, fellows and residents who have distinguished themselves for their abilities and for having commenced research in the following scientific areas: Dermatology, Endocrinology, Fertility and Urology, Orthopaedics, Pain Medicine and Rheumatology.
Each year, one of the fellowships is devoted to a special category. In 2021, the special edition is research that explores Regenerative Medicine.

IBSA Foundation’s Scientific Board will evaluate each project, not an easy task given the high level of quality that increasingly characterises the research projects submitted.

"Every year it becomes more difficult to select the winning projects for the Fellowships, as they all exhibit notable scientific quality and innovation. Since 2013, the year the first International project was launched, we have examined over 760 scientific projects and have seen a steady crescendo of the quality of research, the degree of innovation and the potential of the studies. In the future, this work could genuinely revolutionise the treatment of certain pathologies. This year, for the 2021 edition, we have selected regenerative medicine as our special category because the possibility of regenerating a damaged part of the human body is surely one of the most ambitious aspirations of modern medicine. This desire has motivated doctors and researchers to experiment with increasingly innovative technologies to replace compromised organs and tissue," explained Silvia Misiti, Director of IBSA Foundation.

The Fellowships established by IBSA Foundation are only one example of the commitment and resources that the foundation constantly devotes to medical-scientific research and the dissemination of scientific culture through many initiatives and prestigious forums in which scientists of international renown meet with new generations of scholars.

Young researchers who intend to submit their research projects may send their submissions by and no later than 31 December 2021 using the dedicated platform. The complete call for submissions, information on participation and instructions for sending submissions are available at ibsafoundation.org.
